BookFlix Free Trial

Posted by Mrs. Matzat on November 14, 2007

I signed our building up for a free trial of Scholastic’s Book Flix. Here is the description of the site:

Scholastic BookFlix is a new online literacy resource that pairs classic video storybooks from Weston Woods with related nonfiction eBooks from Scholastic to build a love of reading and learning. The engaging way to link fact and fiction, BookFlix reinforces early reading skills and introduces children to a world of knowledge and exploration.

You can access the free trial at http://bookflix.scholastic.com/freetrial. I will send you the username and password in an email message. I hope you enjoy this service. I think it is pretty great. We have the trial through December, so take advantage of it! Once you have used it with your students, please give me some feedback on what you think of it by commenting on this blog post. I want to know what you think about it before I would invest money in the service.

Enjoy!

Cindy

    Cindy,
This is an excellent site…I had heard about it from some friends at Kirbyville and was so excited when I saw you had got us a subscription. The kids love it we have used it in centers twice, it meets my high and low kids. The high kids can read it to themselves and then fill out a compare and contrast venn diagram adn the low kids can have it read to them. I also like the related websites for enrichment. Thank you and I sooooo hope we get this as a full subscription.
    :) :) :) :)

I experimented with it tonight and I really like it. It will be a great center for my students to rotate through during reading groups. I love how it reads it to them, great for low readers. Thanks for getting us the sample password and username!

I explored Bookflix and so far it looks terrific. I am going to do the Giving Thanks lesson with my students tomorrow. It should be a fun way to pair fiction with non-fiction and include other GLEs such as letter writing and non-ficiton text features. I’ll let you know how it goes.
